HMS Severn
Hms Severn is seen in Leith yesterday (Tuesday 21st August) following a visit by both the First Sea Lord Admiral Sir George Zambellas and FOSNNI Rear Admiral Chris J Hockley.
Whilst photographing Severn I noticed that both her name and her home port have been blacked out, this is because the Royal Navy have now purchased (and own outright) the three River Class Patrol Vessels from BAE. Under their previous agreement the ships were leased to the Navy and although in the hands of the RN, they still were classed as merchant vessels. (See my last picture).

HMS Queen Elizabeth
The aft island of HMS Queen Elizabeth is seen here passing under the Forth Bridge on Friday June 21 en-route Rosyth, where the ship is being assembled.
Aircraft Carrier Alliance workers at BAE Systems in Scotstoun constructed the iconic section, known as Upper Block 14, in 90 weeks. The aft island houses HMS Queen Elizabeth’s air traffic control systems and will be the centre of all on-board flight operations.
Weighing in at more than 750 tonnes, and standing more than 30 metres tall, the aft island is the final section to make the journey to the Rosyth assembly site.
HMS Queen Elizabeth is the first aircraft carrier to use an innovative design of two islands. The forward island, which has already been erected, houses the ship’s bridge. The aft island will house the air traffic control systems.
The aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales are being delivered by the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, a unique partnering relationship between BAE Systems, Thales UK, Babcock and the UK Ministry of Defence.

Farewell Fortress
Tuesday 21st May will be a day that will go down in history. HMS Edinburgh the last (and finest Type 42 Destroyer) sailed from her namesake city for the very last time. As she departed the Royal Marines Band played many tunes from the former Royal Yacht Britannia, also present was a lone piper who played Highland Cathedral (which should be the Scottish National Anthem). As The Fortess came broadside with Britannia, the former yachties who were onboard raised three cheers for HMS Edinburgh, off course Commander Borbone (being the gent he is) returned the three cheers. It was a very emotional event and I struggled to keep the camera in focus with my wet eyes.
BRAVO ZULU HMS EDINBURGH and Commander Borbone, you shall be missed.
I hope the Type 26 Frigate will be named after the Cities and keep the name going!!!
HMS Edinburgh is seen here sailing from her home for the last time :'-(
