HMS EDINBURGH FINAL DEPARTURE

HMS Edinburgh departed Leith (Edinburgh) for the very last time on Tuesday 29th March 2011 just after 10am.  There was no fanfare, no crew lining the sides, no bagpipes, no cannons etc.  It was a very poor show by the Royal Navy for her final departure.  Very dissapointed guys.

HMS EDINBURGH

Edinburgh's own (capital) ship made a courtesy vist to her home port of Leith from Friday 25th to 31st March 2011.  Unfortunately she arrived at the lock entrance just after 4am and was far to dark to get her coming in (I tried!).

Bns Lobelia (M921) is the fourth in a class of six Triparte Class Minehunters built for the Belgian Navy, see HERE for more details on the class.

FGS Augsburg

Fgs Augsburg is seen here arriving in Leith on Friday 21st January 2011, she is the seventh in a class of eight Bremen class frigates - see HERE for more details on this class.

COPYRIGHT THEFT

It has come to my attention that Gary Davies (Maritime Photographic) / Ships Monthly have stolen one of my images and have published it in Ships Monthly without my permission. I am now seeking legal advice and I am also in discussions with Ships Monthly regarding a suitable outcome.

The image in question is HMS Illustrious departing Rosyth after her refit in 2004. The image was taken from the Forth Road Bridge.  Here is the image quite clearly showing that it has been stolen by Gary Davies and then submitted to Ships Monthly.

HMS TYNE

Hms Tyne is seen here arriving Leith (Edinburgh) Monday 13 December for a 5 day R & R visit.    

She is the first of the River Class Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV's) built for Fishery Protection around the UK. These OPVs, including sister ships HMS Severn and HMS Mersey, are taking over from the Island Class. HMS Tyne was built in Woolston Docks, Southampton and is based at HM Naval Base Portsmouth.

The current HMS Tyne is the sixth ship to bear the name in the Royal Navy. 

A new Commanding Officer took command of the vessel in July 2010 - Lieutenant Commander Will Peters Royal Navy.  From mid 2007 to late 2009 he enjoyed a productive period with the Joint Tactical Exercise Planning Staff, based at the Northwood Headquarters, where his responsibilities included planning advanced ASW exercises and bespoke amphibious, mine countermeasures and diving training as part of the bi-annual Joint Warrior Exercises.
